Back & Neck

Whatever your back or neck problem SJP sports rehabilitation can help.

Back Pain

Low back pain is extremely common. Onset of acute low back pain may occur suddenly with pain developing over a period of hours. Patients with chronic low back pain may also have acute episodes that may become more frequent. Pain may be constant or intermittent and aggravated by certain movements.

There is no one treatment that is appropriate for all cases of low back pain. SJP sports rehabilitation uses an integrated approach utilising mobilisations, manipulations and massage to help reduce pain, restore range of movement and achieve optimal strength whilst maintaining fitness. Correction of predisposing factors, for example by correcting poor posture and looking at core stability, may be enough to alleviate current symptoms and prevent recurrence. If the cause is not identified and eliminated, symptoms may persist and the likelyhood of recurrence is high. Treatment also aims to help reduce the frequency of lower back pain.

Neck pain

Neck pain is a common condition with many recognisable symptoms associated with it. Neck pain is often associated with headaches and can also refer pain to the shoulder and arm.

Whiplash is a common injury in motor vehicle accidents and may also occur in sport. Although pain may not have been present at the time of injury there is typically an increase in pain over the following few days.

Neck pain can also be related to postural problems. Prolonged static posture such as working at a computer all day - can aggravate pain. Pain is mostly felt as a burning or aching across the shoulders and neck.

All of these neck conditions are treated in a unique individual way with a personalised rehabilitation program devised to correct the current problem and prevent recurrence. Treatment includes mobilisation and manipulation of the joints in the neck; stretching and strengthening of the muscles in the neck; massage to tight muscles in the neck and shoulders and postural retraining as well as electrotherapy.
